When Peter Milliken, Speaker of the House and M.P. for Kingston and the Islands, met President Barack Obama on Parliament Hill, he handed over a thoughtful gift. It’s a book called ‘In Roosevelt’s Bright Shadow’, edited by Arthur Milnes, fellow with the Centre for the Study of Democracy at Queen’s. The book presents addresses made to Parliament by many US presidents, beginning with Roosevelt, to whom Obama has often been compared.
“I’m looking forward to reading it,” President Obama said.
The book will be published by the School of Policy Studies, Queen's University/McGill-Queen's University Press in April of this year, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Roosevelt’s 1938 speech and visit to Queen’s.
